One of the most important steps to getting started in Kindful is to set up your payment gateway.

- Stripe
- PayPal
You can find the connection options for the three non-Bloomerang Payments options in Settings > Fundraising Settings > Gateway.
Connecting a Payment Gateway is meant to power your Kindful Online Giving pages. Therefore, the act of connecting the gateway will not bring in any historical transactions by default. If you would like more information about how to bring historical transactions or recurring payments into Kindful, please reach out to support, or partner with your Onboarding Representative.
Of Note: these must be enabled in your account for you to be able to see them and connect. Please contact your Onboarding Representative or Kindful Support to enable.
Choosing a gateway
With four options of how to process your donations, it can be hard to determine which one to connect.
We've gathered a handful of highlights so you can decide which one(s) to connect.
Bloomerang Payments (recommended) |
Accept Credit, debit, and ACH in a single solution. Low processing fees, no setup fees, no monthly fees. Every other day payouts. Automatic Card Updater. Industry-leading security and fraud protection included at no additional charge |
Stripe | Low processing fees, no monthly fees Accepts credit, debit only |
Authorize.Net | Monthly and setup fees on top of processing fees Accepts credit, debit. Offers ACH (direct bank payments) with separate charge |
PayPal | Low processing fees Only accepts payments via PayPal account (no direct credit, debit entry options) |
Specific instructions
All the instructions you need to get these payment gateways set up can be found when you click on Sign Up & Connect.
We've also created these guides to walk you through each setup process. For any gateway chosen, to control how the line item displays on a donor's bank statement, you will need to modify the settings in the respective connected gateway. Kindful does send "pointers" to the bank on what to use, but the bank ultimately has the most control over what displays on the donor's statement.
The only thing Kindful sends to Stripe as the statement descriptor is "Kindful - <your organization name>", so Kindful would only be sending "Kindful - Sea Turtle Project" to Stripe. However, Stripe may have some variance in what they send to the donor's bank, and the donor's bank has the ultimate final say in what appears on the donor's bank statement. Sometimes Stripe, or the donor's bank, ignore what we tell them to populate, and at this time we don't have a way around that.
