Step 2: Connect a Payment Gateway

This is the second step in our Quick Start Guide. 


One of the most important steps to getting started in Kindful is to set up your payment gateway. After all, donors need a way to give you money!

You can find the connection options for the three non-Kindful Payments options in Settings > Fundraising Settings > Gateway. Of note, these must be enabled in your account for you to be able to see them and connect.


Note: Connecting a Payment Gateway is meant to power your Kindful Online Giving pages. Therefore, the act of connecting the gateway will not bring in any historical transactions by default. If you would like more information about how to bring historical transactions or recurring payments into Kindful, please reach out to support, or partner with your Success Rep.  

Choosing a gateway

With three options of how to process your donations, it can be hard to determine which one to connect.

We've gathered a handful of highlights so you can decide which one(s) to connect.

 Stripe Low processing fees, no monthly fees
(see pricing or email Stripe to get nonprofit pricing)
Accepts credit, debit
 Authorize.Net Monthly and setup fees (see pricing)
Accepts credit, debit
Offers ACH (direct bank payments)
 PayPal Low processing fees (see pricing)
Only accepts PayPal (no credit, debit options)

With all that information, Stripe is definitely our recommended gateway. Authorize.Net is great for those ACH payments (very easy for monthly donors), but Stripe tends to be the preferred gateway for most of our users.

We also suggest PayPal if you also have a Stripe or Authorize.Net account set up in tandem.
